Prairie Pride Credit Union Newsletter - Summer 2003

A Message From the General Manager on the New Banking System and its Progress

In November of 2002, the Board of Directors and Management met for two days to discuss the future direction of Prairie Pride Credit Union. The Directors and Management completed a visioning exercise of 7 to 10 years into the future. This was a snapshot of how Prairie Pride Credit Union and our communities would look like at that time. Based on the comments given, it was determined the future would bring New Opportunities and New Challenges, but it was apparent to the Board of Directors and Management that Prairie Pride Credit Union Will Be Here.

From this exercise, a Strategic Plan for the credit union was completed for the next 18 months to two years. One of the main key drivers in this quoted statement *We Will Be Here* is the issue and opportunity of technology. Technology is constantly changing and its benefits and opportunities will not only increase, but also its use will be a requirement in order to continue to exist. On December 30, 2002, the Board of Directors signed a contract with CGI to provide this new technology (banking system) to Prairie Pride Credit Union.

Some of the reasons Prairie Pride Credit Union has chosen to make this investment in technology are:

  • The existing banking system served each individual credit union well but is being pushed to its capacities by our credit union*s current needs. The ability for the banking system to be expanded to meet our needs is very limited.
  • The existing system is very limiting in the ability for the credit union to add or customize services and products for our own members and non-members. This leads to decisions for implementing new services and products based on technology rather than being driven by our members and non-members needs.
  • A benefit of the growth of the credit union over the past few years has been the ability to move into a real-time banking system that was not possible previously. This is one more step in preparing the credit union for the future and continuing to provide the best service possible for our communities.
There will be significant benefits for the members and non-members with this new banking system. Some of these benefits are firstly, members and non-members will be able to go to any of our branches and complete banking transactions (just like you can right now).
You will be able to make deposits & cash withdrawals
but with this new system you will be able to obtain
immediate balances on your accounts upon completing
transactions. Secondly, this new banking system will be
real-time. Upon making a deposit, you will then be able
to go to your local merchant and immediately utilize your
new card(s) balances. Thirdly, there will be the ability for
