NEWS AND EVENTS:

  • The Alameda Curling Club held a fundraiser with hypnotist James Grant as the entertainment
  • Penny and Murray Carnduff from Carnduff acquired the meat market business from Davis'.
  • The Alameda rink has undergone a major facelift this fall. New Plexiglas, larger music room, storage area, a trophy case, paneling and painting, etc., etc.
  • St. Joseph's Parish of Oxbow hosted a polka mass and feast on October 14th. The Melody Kings played for the mass and the dance that followed. This was the second year the parish has hosted this event instead of the fowl supper. They have already scheduled the Melody Kings to perform next year on October 6, 2002.
  • Alameda welcomes their new United Church minister Reverend David Maxwell and his wife Lois to their community.
  • The MerryMakers had a fun day at their hall on November 14. Close to 80 seniors enjoyed playing cards and visiting.
  • The Alameda United Church hosted a Soup and Sandwich luncheon on December 1st.
  • The Alameda skyline has changed with the Pool Elevator demolished. The Alameda Library board is selling reprints of a picture of the elevators as painted by a local talent a number of years ago. The pictures sell for $5.00 a piece with a short history of the picture on the back. The pictures are available at the Alameda Branch of the Prairie Pride Credit Union and the Alameda Library.
  • An Octoberfest supper and movie was held on October 6 in Gainsborough.
  • The Gainsborough Swimming Pool committee held a Ladies Night Out on October 26 with impersonator LEGENDS as the entertainment.
  • The annual Ladies Night out in Alida was held on Saturday, November 3 with a female comedienne (Cory Mack) from Calgary as the entertainer followed by the local entertainment crew "the Village Idiots".
  • A loonie auction followed the program as well as numerous door prizes donated by local and surrounding area businesses and individuals. Thank you to all that supported this worthwhile project which the proceeds go to Alida Rec Board. The following day, the local annual fall supper was enjoyed by approximately 370 people from near and far.
  • The Alida and District Lions Club hosted their annual supper to all the seniors in Alida for present and former residents of Alida on Thursday, November 8. A turkey supper was enjoyed by all who attended.
  • Alida School hosted a Remembrance Day Service on November 8 in the school gym. Several people attended the service, Alex Boulet of Alida, a veteran of World War II was guest speaker and wreaths were laid by the "cenotaph" in commemoration of the Veterans in the area.
  • Agribition was held in Regina from November 19th - 24th. Paul Cowan of Carievale was the winner of the 2 Agribition tickets from Prairie Pride Credit Union this year. Arden Charlton from Alameda Branch attended and participated in this annual event.
